A 2-week, field-based, 3-credit, summer special topics course
May 8th – 19th 2017
Course Description: Do you enjoy learning by doing, spending time in the outdoors, and exploring your passions and interests? Join us on this unique opportunity to explore community-based solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems, while also earning upper division credit towards your degree! We will visit Earthship builders in Taos, NM, permaculture professionals in Basalt, CO, and environmental justice activists in the San Luis Valley, just to name a few. This course will give you tangible experience to draw on as you continue to develop your own sense of place, career goals, and academic interests.
Our class will spend May 8th & 9th in the Gunnison Valley, the 10th – 17th on the road camping each night, and back to Gunnison for post-trip reflection on the 18th & 19th. This course is open to all students from any department with good academic standing. Additionally, this course can substitute for a Water Emphasis Requirement for ENVS students. Students are responsible for cost of food and tuition.
